Country music started in the early 1920s. In more than eighty years, its sound and style have changed greatly. In its early years, honky-tonks throughout Oklahoma and Texas were filled with country music fans every Friday and Saturday evening. They enjoyed listening to the sound of guitars and drums as well. In 1933, the repeal of prohibition of alcohol made those pubs even more popular. When it came to public drinking, people could enjoy their favourite music and alcohol at the same time. Another form of the country music style was based on the music of cowboys in the American West, which was brought to the American public through “singing cowboy” films of the 1930s and 1940s. Theatres were filled with fans of cowboy films which in turn made cowboy songs popular. Country music changed once again in the 1950s with a sound that became known as rockabilly —a mix of the southern hills music and the blues. During the 1960s, country music became a multimillion dollar industry centred in Nashville, Tennessee. The Nashville sound brought country music to a greater audience. Many of us have rows and rows of sharp teeth. Some teeth are pointed backward, so dinner does not escape. Other fish don’t have teeth like these. We have been swimming in the seas since dinosaurs walked on the earth — for more than 450 million years. I don’t have many enemies. B Ⅱ. As we all know, different nations have different customs. People living in different cultures do many daily things differently. So if American customs seem strange to you, remember that Americans feel the same way when they visit your country. Some differences are small, and one soon bees accustomed to them. For example, many people find it strange that Americans move from place to place so often. Born in one city, they may attend school in the second, enter business in the third, and perhaps move several more times during their lives. Today, most Americans fully expect and accept the fact that they might have to move frequently. Houses are of great interest to Americans. They spend a lot of time thinking, reading and talking about their houses and how to improve them. They also enjoy visiting others’ houses. The living room is considered to be for guests. Most Americans will first ask permission to go into another room in someone else’s house, saying something like “Excuse me, I have to make a phone call. Is there a room where I could talk so I won’t disturb anyone?” Therefore, if you visit an American’s home, do not walk freely through the house. Ask for permission or just wait to be invited on a tour of the house. 1. nations 2. strange 3. frequently 4. enjoy Ⅲ. 3. B 解析:It all depends. 或That depends. 4. A 解析:break down破裂;break out爆發(fā);break in闖入;break through突破;根據(jù)句義選A。 5. B 解析:選項(xiàng)A時(shí)態(tài)錯(cuò)誤。C和D選項(xiàng)與an important role不搭配。play an important role 7. A 解析:第一個(gè)空rely on sb/sth是固定搭配,第二個(gè)空f(shuō)or(advice)有“獲得”的意思,第三個(gè)空填on表示“有關(guān)”的意思,相當(dāng)于about,故選A。 8. 10. A 解析:動(dòng)詞mean 后可接to do 或doing,但意義不同。mean to do 意為“打算”; mean doing 意為“意味著;意思是”。 12. C 解析:第一個(gè)空是“介詞+關(guān)系代詞”的結(jié)構(gòu),for which 相當(dāng)于why;第二個(gè)空只能用that 引導(dǎo)表語(yǔ)從句,第三個(gè)空只能用which引導(dǎo)一個(gè)非限制性定語(yǔ)從句,指代前面句子所說(shuō)的那件事。 13. B 解析:此題屬于 “the+noun+of which” 的表達(dá)方式,of后不能接that。 14. A 解析:whose在從句中作定語(yǔ),故選A。 15. 完整的句子應(yīng)是 “Mr King worked in the boss’ department …”,故C為正確答案。 Ⅳ. Freddy and his band could not go out anywhere without being followed. 2. The thieves stole 500 yuan in cash. 3. I have three books on cooking, the first of which I like best. 4. He worked as a tutor in the summer vacation in order to earn some extra money. 5. Their performances that were humorous and interesting made a strong impression on us. Ⅴ. 9. D 解析: with the music on 表示隨著音樂……。 C 解析:從文章第二段 “They enjoyed listening to the sound of guitars and drums as well.” 可知選C。 2. B 解析:從文章第二段 “In 1933, the repeal of prohibition of alcohol …” 可知選B。 3. D 解析:從文章第二段后面 “made those pubs even more popular” 的提示可知,those pubs 指的是前面的honky-tonks。 4. Broadway performances have been influenced greatly by the traditions of four different American minority groups: Irish Americans, Italian Americans, Jewish Americans, and African Americans. 8. Broadway shows have changed along with changes in modern culture, but the basic tradition of music and theatre has stayed the same. Ⅶ. 書面表達(dá) Dear Celion Dion, My name is Li Li. I’m a middle school student from China. I love music and admire you very much.
