Tell students that they have to learn to guess the meanings of the words they don’t know when they read the passage. Make sure students know what to do. 2. Students read the passage again and replace the underlined words with the phrases in the box. 1）Making mistakes in French used to make Lin Yue nervous. 2）It was quite hard for her to feel good about speaking French. 3）The host family tried very hard to help Lin Yue. 4）Lin Yue has slowly learned how to be like her French friends. They go out of their way to make me feel at home. go out of one’s way 特地；格外努力 e.g. John went out of his way to make his girlfriend happy. 約翰想方設法使他的女朋友高興。 make sb. feel at home 使某人感到賓至如歸 e.g. I’m doing everything I can to make them feel at home. 我在盡我一切所能使他們感到賓至如歸。 2. My biggest challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. learning how to behave at the table是現(xiàn)在分詞短語，在此用作句子的表語。再如： His main hobby is fishing. 他的主要愛好是釣魚。 The most important thing is getting there in time. 最重要的事是及時到達那里。 Behave 講解：behave是不及物動詞，意為“表現(xiàn)；行為”，behave well / badly表示“表現(xiàn)好/糟糕”。它的名詞形式behaviour(舉止；行為)，是不可數(shù)名詞。 運用：請根據(jù)漢語意思補全英語句子，每空一詞。 1) 如果你那樣表現(xiàn)，你會讓人厭惡的。 ____ you _______ like that, you’ll get yourself disliked. 2) 如此的行為可能招致麻煩。 ______ ________ may cause trouble. 3. … but I’m gradually getting used to it. get used to 習慣于 e.g. We get used to this way of speaking. 我們習慣了這種說話方式。 辨析：① be/get used to sth./doing sth. 習慣于… e.g. He got used to living in the country. 他習慣住在鄉(xiāng)下。 ② used to do sth. 過去常常做某事（現(xiàn)在不做了） e.g. He used to plant roses. 他過去常常種植玫瑰。 4. Another example is that you’re not supposed to eat anything with your hand except bread, not even fruit. except作介詞，意為“除……之外”，和but意義相似，但語氣上要比but更加強烈。 1) Everyone is here except him. 2) We have classes except on Saturday and Sunday. 通過觀察例句1和例句2，我們可知except后可以跟 ______ 和 ______ 。 3) I can take a holiday at any time except in September. 通過觀察例句3，可知，except后也可跟__________。 4) He never came to visit except to borrow something. 5) He will do anything except lent you money. 通過觀察例句4，可知except后可接動詞不定式。意思是“除了做……”。但在例句5中except后為“l(fā)end you money”，所以我們可知若except前含不定代詞時，就要______________________。 運用：將下列漢語句子翻譯成英語。 1. 除了烹調(diào)，她別的都會干。______________________________ 2. 我除了要通過考試之外，沒有別的心愿。_______________________________ Step 10 Group work Work on 2e 1.
