On 17th February, 1963, Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York. Now Michael Jordan is a worldwide name; sometimes he is referred to as M.J., or Air Jordan. Jordan is the fourth of five children, having two elder brothers and an elder and a younger sister. Michael’s dad worked hard at an electric factory while his mom labored full-time at a bank. Jordan’s parents worked hard to provided their children with a fortable life. 知識點: 1) refer to 提及…… 2) be born 出生于 3) elder 年長的 例如: my elder sister 我的姐姐 Janet is Mary’s elder sister. My elder daughter is abroad. He is my elder by two years. He is older than me. I’m two years older than he. The cathedral is the oldest building in the city. This is my eldest son (daughter). His elder brother (sister) works in a clothing factory. 如: Jim is my eldest. I’m the eldest in the family. He was the elder of the two sons. He is my elder by two years. / He is two years older than I. 他比我大兩歲。 4) full-time 全職 He works there full time. Can you work full time or part time? You like Michael Jordan, don’t you? 知識點: 1)all over the world 世界各地 2)not only … but also 不但……而且…… not only…but also是英語中較為常見的一個關聯詞組。 Not only I but also Tom and Mary are fond of watching television. 由于not only A but also B句式的重點在B上,所以謂語動詞一般要與B保持人稱和數的一致。 The Americans and the British not only speak the same language but also share a large number of social customs. 注意not only…but also連接的動詞一般不重復,這與漢語不同。如漢語說“我不僅懂英語,而且懂俄語”,英語則說“I know not only English but also Russian”,而不說 “I not only know English but also know Russian”.再如:“氣體不僅改變形狀,而且改變體積”,英譯為 “A gas changes not only in shape but also in volume.” 3> 連接賓語: The problem for the recipient (adj. 收信人)was trying to guess not only who the sender was, but also what his secret feelings might be. Light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. Shakespeare was not only a writer but (also) an actor If your friend reminds you kindly of your faults, take what he says not merely pleasantly but thankfully. They have been to ______ America ________ Australia. So they know very much about them ② 這個小孩僅4 歲,但他既會說英語又會說法語。 The child is only 4 years old. But he can speak __________ English __________French. Our new house is ___________________________________. We love it very much. 3. In 1978, when Jordan attended Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, he was cut from the varsity team. Instead of giving up, however, he fought through troubles and became the greatest basketball player in the world. Nine times he was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive First Team, and in 1988, he was named NBA Defensive Player of the year. After his father was murdered, he had a hard time with his game, but as you can see, nothing stopped him. In December, 1997, Michael Jordan was the first player who was named NO. 1 in The Sporting News. 知識點: 1) instead of 代替 2) give up 放棄 3) fight through troubles想方設法克服困難 4) have a hard time 度過艱難的時光 4. The easiest way is to use a special program called a “web editor”. You can find these programs on the Internet. First think about some things to put on your Internet page by looking at other people’s pages. You need to put your Internet page on a bigger puter called a “host” which stores the pages so that other people can see them. These puters are owned by special Internet panies. Our program may be able to help you find a host puter which you can use for free, but some panies will charge money for this. To make your Internet page, start up the program and write some text in the window, then use the signs you can see on the puter to put in pictures and make the text larger or smaller, and change the way your page looks. You can also put photos on your Internet page. First, you need to put the photo in your puter, then use your mouse to move the photo to the place where you want it. Choose the correct sign for putting photos onto the page, then find the name of your photo in your puter. When you’ve found it, choose that one with your mouse and put your photo on your Internet page. You can also put signs on your Internet page to join it to other people’s pages. Visitors to your page can follow these signs to find out more about a subject. For example, if your page includes some information about Jackie Chen, you could put on a sign that takes you to the page for his fan club. When you have pleted your Internet page, you can put it on the Internet. After you put your page on the Internet, anyone will be able to see it. 1.
