Period 2 Reading “Come and eat here”( 1 )
Teaching aims:
1.To develop the students’ reading ability, learn to use some reading strategies such as guessing, skimming and so on;
2.To get the students to realize the importance of having a healthy diet
3 .To grasp some useful words and expression

1.Understand the text well.
2.Try to master the useful new words & expressions in this period.
Teaching procedures:
Step one : Lead in
1.Show a set of photos of Zheng Xinyi, which
3、were taken before she lost weight and ask the Ss :
Can you recognize her ? ( Zheng Xinyi, Shen Dianxia’s daughter )
What do you think of her when you see her at first sight ? ( fat )
2.Show a set of photos of Zheng Xinyi, which were taken after she lost weight and ask the Ss :
Who is the girl ?
4、 Is she Zheng Xinyi ?
What do you think of her now ?
( more beautiful / slim ; She is famous not only for her parents but also for her success in losing 32 kilos in weight .)
In your opinion, what made her become so slim ?
( exercise / medicine / a balanced diet ? )
T: From this, we see the
5、diet plays an important role in her losing weight . Let’s have a look at one of her menus that her nutritionist designed for her.
Breakfast : A bowl of corn flakes + unfat milk
Lunch : Vegetable + some different sorts of unfat meat
Time for tea in the afternoon : Only when you feel hungry can yo

Supper : Three dishes + a soup course ( esp. vegetable with a little oil )
Qs : What do you think of her menu ?
Do you think it makes a healthy diet ? Why do you think so ?
T : As we know, a healthy diet is very important to us. If we don’t have the right diet in our daily
7、life, there will be something wrong with us sooner or later. Now , let’s read a story related to the diet .
Step two : Skimming
Reading strategies: Make a guess according to the title “ Come and eat here ”before reading.
Where are you invited to go ?
What foods are you offered there ?

1.Reading strategies : Read fast to prove your guess
A. Get the Ss to read the whole story fast to prove whether their guesses are right.
Then ask the following questions to finish the table :

2.Give the Ss 2 minutes to summarize the main idea of the story with the help of the above table, using 2 or 3 sentences.
Step Three : Scanning
T : The story is mainly about two persons, that is, Wang Pengwei and Yong Hui .

11、 : Who is the main character in the story ? ( Wang Pengwei ) Now let’s read the story again to get more about him.
1.Get the Ss to read the story carefully to make a list of places where he stayed & went and his feelings in these places.
2. Ask some questions to help the Ss have a better understan
12、ding of the story.
Qs : What did Wang Pengwei feel when he was in his own restaurant ?Why did he so so? Did his friend enter his restaurant as usual ? Where did he go instead ? Did Pengwei go there too ?What made him do so ?What did he feel in Yong Hui’s restaurant ? Why ?Where did he go after he l
13、eft Yong Hui’s restaurant ?Why did he go there ?What did he feel after doing the research ? Why ? In this way, the competition between them was on !
Step four : Extension
1.Get the Ss to discuss in pairs :
Who will win the competition at last ? Give your reasons.
( Neither will, because neither
14、 of them provide their customers with a healthy diet. Foods in Wang Pengwei’s makes people fat while foods in Yong Hui’s makes people tired easily.)
2.Please think of a way to help them put an end to their competition. ( cooperation )
3.Work in groups of four to design a sign for the cooperatedly-

1.Read the story aloud and find out some beautiful sentences
2.Write a short passage to explain your sign.
