Read an article about Rowan to get some knowledge on how to write about a person. 2. Write about a person with the reference of the model article. Watch a funny short film of Mr. Bean. Stage II: Pre- reading A. Lead-in: 1. Who is the man in the film? 2. what is the name of the player? 3. you laughed so lot and you must like him, right? Today we are going to learn how to write about a person by reading about the player----Rowan Atkinson B. As a reader, what information do you want to know about Rowan? Students may list the following things: weight height family education or else. The teacher also can give some choices. (weight, height, family etc.) Stage III. Scanning and Listening 1.Scan the first paragraph and find the answer for the blank : Success: best known for playing_____________(Mr. Bean) 2.Listen and fill in the blanks: (to get some basic personal information and drills used for writing about a person) Birthday born on/in ___________________(January 6, 1955) Family born in a ________(farmer’s)family with father, mother and ______(three)older brothers Education studied at Newcastle University and___________(Oxford) Degree obtained his__________(Master’s) degree in electrical engineering Interest collecting _______________(fast cars) Stage IV. Reading ( to learn how to write the experiences of a person ,especially how to use the writing order and tenses) Read the last two paragraphs and fill in the blanks in the correct forms of the verbs. Experiences Something special Something important 1.In his childhood, he had (have) some speaking problems. 2. He pensated (pensate) for this by talking deliberately. 3.At primary school, he had already shown (show) acting talent. 4.At university , he met (meet) a group of talented people. 5.One day in 1976,when he was pulling (pull) faces in the mirror, a key event occurred. Stage V. Simple conclusion (Try to lead the students to speak along by speaking more slowly when necessary)) So when we write about a person ,we usually give some general introduction first ,then include some basic personal information and then choose some special or important experiences to write and usually use the time writing order and past tenses. Stage VI Discussion and writing practice Choose the students’ favorite teachers and classmates and put their photos on the screen Actually, there are a lot of people whom you liked very much and want to write about. Such as...(show the photos) Choose any one of them and discuss what you should write in groups(the groups are divided according to their choices) (after 5 minutes’ discussion) It’s time for you to write and later you will evaluate your writings in pairs. While you are writing and evaluating, you should bear the criteria in your minds. Points for revising and evaluating: 1.general introduction 2 2. enough personal information 3 3 experiences/ deeds 6 4. concluding sentences 2 5. writing order 3 6. tense 3 7. 7. wording 4 8. 8. handwriting 2 Stage VII presentation and group evaluation 1.Choose about 2 students to present their group work while the rest listen carefully to prepare for the evaluation. The teacher shows the criteria: 1.) Does it cover necessary information? 2). Is the structure coherent and clear? 3) What can you learn from the position? 2. Choose about 2 positions to put on the screen and assess them together paying more attention to the wording, grammar and handwriting.
