第8課時(shí)八年級(jí)下冊(cè) Units 12一、閱讀理解 (2019·預(yù)測(cè))How many hours do you spend sitting in a chair every day? Eight hours in the office and three hours in front of the TV after work is the answer for many people. You probably don't need others to tell you that sitting too much is not good for your health. What's worse, a recent research suggests that we cannot get rid of(消除) the negative effects of sitting too much with a good diet and exercise, according to an article in The New York Times. The article reported that a 2010 study of nearly 9,000 Australians found that for each extra hour of television a person watched a day, the risk of dying rose by 11%.Another study tracked(追蹤) the health of 123,000 Americans between 1992 and 2006. The death rate(死亡率) for men who spent six hours or more a day sitting was about 20% higher than those who sat for three hours or less. The death rate for women who sat for more than six hours a day was about 40% higher than the death rate for women who sat for three hours or less. In other words, sitting is killing us. So, what can we do about it? Health experts suggest we spend more time standing. The BBC and the University of Chester in the UK did a simple experiment with a small group of 10 volunteers who usually spent most of the day sitting. They were asked to stand for at least three hours a day. The researchers took measurements(測(cè)量) on days when the volunteers stood, and when they sat around. They found the volunteers' blood glucose level(血糖水平) went down much more quickly after a meal on the days when the volunteers stood compared with the days they spent in a chair. Standing also burned more calories(卡路里)about 50 calories an hour. The researchers believe that even small changes in our daily life, like standing while talking on the phone, going over to talk to a colleague rather than sending an email, or simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator, will help. 1According to the passage, can we get rid of the negative effects of sitting too much with a good diet and exercise?AYes, we can. This is because the students have too much homework. They have to spend long time finishing the homework, so that they can't go to sleep early. Second, many students would rather play computer games late than go to bed early.Without enough sleep, many students feel sleepy in class, it will get in the way of their study. As a result, their grades drop. What's more, some students can get ill easily.Enough sleep is important for students' development. We must do something to make sure the students can have enough sleep. First, less homework should be given to the students by teachers. Second, students need to keep away from mobile phones for at least an hour before sleep. Reading books or listening to some smooth music are both helpful to students.5
