閱讀七選五提升練(二) A Homesickness is a feeling that we all have probably experienced at one time or another. 1 Remember the following strategies before you get ready to leave. 2 Knowing more about homesickness will provide insight into how mon it is for people to have feelings of missing home.This will surely help make you feel less stressed or embarrassed about missing home. 3 You can ask someone who is knowledgeable about where you’ll go to describe the daily routines or activities you should expect.If it’s practical,you could plan a preliminary(初步的)visit with family or friends to the place you’ll go to. Make plans for when you arrive at your new location.When you know what some of your routines and activities will be when you get to the new place,you’ll feel more fortable. 4 One study found that vigorous exercise and purposeful social interaction while away helped to avoid feelings of homesickness.Bring something from home.Sometimes homesickness can be difficult because you never know when it might hit you.Bring along a favorite book,a pair of slippers,or a picture. 5 They can be helpful to fort you when you’re homesick. A.Adopt your previous habits and routines. B.Explore your new location. C.Bee familiar with the place you will go to. D.The experience will seem a little more familiar,making homesickness less likely. E.Preparing to move away from home helps prevent homesickness. F.Know that homesickness is totally normal. B (原創(chuàng))A famous Irish saying sums up the importance of a good sleep,“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.” Enough sleep plays an important role in keeping a healthy lifestyle.When you wake up after a good night’s sleep,you feel not only fresh,but also enthusiastic,happy,and energetic. 1 For example: ●Avoid phones or puters in bed.Watching late-night TV,reading on a phone,late-night chatting and surfing not only reduce your sleeping hours but also ruin your health. 2 The light prevents the release of a hormone (激素) called melatonin,which is released in the dark and signals to our body that it’s time to sleep. ●Don’t go to bed angry.Arguments make you angry. 3 So don’t argue with someone else before going to bed.Instead,you should be calm before going to bed to get a good sleep. ● 4 Eating a heavy meal before going to bed can be bad for you.Eating high-calorie foods before bed can also lead to weight gain.Eating processed or highly salty foods can make you thirsty,leading to excessive consumption of water,which has an ill effect too.So remember to eat a light meal at night. ●Avoid drinking.It is true that alcohol(酒精) makes you sleepy,but that is only for the first half. 5 You may experience frequent awakenings,nightmares,headaches,sweats,and many bad results. A.Don’t eat before going to bed. B.It actually disturbs the sleep later. C.Don’t do much exercise before sleeping. D.Mobiles,puters and TVs throw a blue and white light. E.So,try to avoid some unhealthy activities before sleeping at night. F.It’s advised to read a boring novel or a topic of less interest at night. G.They will disturb you mentally and keep you awake for a long time. C Sometimes in your life,you may be asked to speak in front of a large group of people.Although it sounds a little scary,even those with stage fright can speak successfully to the group with adequate preparation. ●Practice your speech before the big day. 1 If possible,practice the speech in front of a friend or family member to get used to saying it to real people.If you feel you must have note cards,limit the amount to about three cards.This will force you to keep your speech concise and help you keep your eyes focused on your audience. ●Remember why you’ve been invited to speak.If you’re battling fear over speaking to a large group of people,keep your mind on the fact that you were selected for this important role.The speech organizers must have seen something valuable in you or your expertise. 2 ● Remember that fear of public speaking is very mon. 3 Most of the people in the audience would be feeling the same fear and stress that you do in your position.Knowing this may make you feel better. ● 4 What you say should be tailored to why you’re there and who you’re speaking to in order to avoid sounding general.If speaking to a charity group,mention the good work certain specific individuals have done for the cause.If speaking at a business conference,briefly state why you want to help these people. ●Keep eye contact with the crowd. 5 Pick one person in each section and look at him while you’re speaking.After each important point in your speech,switch your focus to another section.When you focus only on one person at a time,the size of the crowd isn’t as frightening. So what can parents do if they want to break the overparenting “helicopter” cycle? 4 ◆Stop saying “we” when you mean your son or your daughter.All too often a parent would say “we are on the travel soccer team”.Well,no,your son is or your daughter is. ◆Stop arguing with all of the adults in our kids’ lives.You need to teach your kids to advocate for themselves. ◆Stop doing your kids’ homework. ◆ 5 Teach them to cross the street,make a meal,and remember to put their own items in their backpacks,which bees a briefcase one day.
