Teaching Procedure:
Step 1 Lead-in
Teacher does use some body language to show some activities which the students are extremely familiar. While doing the actions, the teacher should speak out what she is doing. For example, I am run
5、ning, I am eating, I am sleeping …
1). Group competition
The teacher uses PPT to show different people. They are doing different things. Teacher divide the whole class into 4 big groups and each group elect one student as their delegate to compete with other groups’ delegates. And other students w
6、ho are not delegates will be the judges. When the PPT shows a picture the delegates are required to describe what they are doing. Anyone who pauses too long or says the wrong sentences pattern, he or she will be excluded. The last one who remains will be the winner and the whole group members will g
7、et one point each.
Purpose of my design: To motivate students and review the Present Progressive Tense.
2). Review the Present Progressive Tense. (Individual work)
a) Teacher invites one student to write down the structure of Present Progressive Tense.

b) Invite students to answer how to change different verbs into its ing forms.
Purpose of my design: recall the students’ knowledge of Present Progressive Tense and make it easier to lead in Past Progressive Tense.
Step 2 Teaching new lessons
1). Class work
9、PPT shows a picture.
Teacher asks what Mary is doing now. Students answer. What Mary was doing at this time yesterday? Teacher guide the students to use the right sentence structure. Then compare the differences (Be verbs and time) between the two sentences.
Mary is reading now.
Mary was reading
10、 at this time yesterday.
Teacher use more pictures and the same procedures to make students be familiar with the sentence pattern.
2). Individual work
PPT shows a picture. There are five people drawing different animals on the backboard before the Monday English class. Teacher asks students what
11、they are doing. Then teacher says:”now, it is Wednesday, what was Li Lei doing when the teacher came in?”
Purpose of these two activities: to lead students into the Past Progressive Tense and make them to find the rules by themselves. Comparing the Present Progressive Tense and Past Progressive Ten
12、se can make students feel easier to grasp this grammar.
Step 3 conversations and act out
1). Pair work
There are many pictures. Teacher asks the students to make up conversations in pair work.
2). Group work (act out)
First, teacher plays a short video about The black cat sergeant to lead stu
13、dents into a situation. There was a burglar who has stolen many things in Forest Neighborhood from 8PM to 10PM. Now, the black cat sergeant is investigating the animals.
For example:
Black cat sergeant: what were you doing from 8pm to 10 pm?
Snoopy: I was sleeping.
Black cat: how about you? What
14、 were you doing from 8pm to 10 pm?
Pleasant Goat(喜洋洋):I was fighting against Big Big Wolf(灰太狼)
Bugs Bunny(兔八哥): I was running.

Step 3 Sum up
1) Invite students to conclude the sentence structure of Past Progressive Tense.

Purpose of my design: to sum up the grammar we have just learned and test whether the students have fully grasped it.
3). Homework
a) Make a survey about what were your classmates or your family members doing at 9 O’clock. Then give a investigation report next class.
b) Finish the Part A in exercise book and then discuss with your group members and correct the mistakes. Discuss why it is right or why it is wrong.
