A Flying Ever since I was old enough to dream,I have imagined myself soaring with the eagles. My love of flying has shaped the way I live and the person I have become. Two years ago, that passion rocketed to new heights when I had the opportunity to visit Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona. For a whole week I lived in a college dorm, roomed with a total stranger and—best of all—I flew! My group took part in activities ranging from learning about the history of aviation(航空) to flying in stateoftheart pilot training simulators(模擬裝置).At least once a day,I devoted myself to learning one of the world’s best training aircrafts, the Cessna 182.Not only did I receive thorough ground instruction, but I also got to fly.In total,I flew five hours to receive my private pilot’s license. In that one joyous and ohsoshort week,my passion for aviation grew even stronger. Now,whenever I see a plane flying overhead,I feel a sense of pride thinking I’ve done that. During my time in and above the Arizona desert,I learned not only about the mechanics and techniques of aviation, but also about myself and how I see the world. As I floated in that seemingly endless sea of air,I became aware of the variety and complexity of the humanity below. On the ribbons of roadways, each tiny car carried people with hopes and dreams.I wondered if any of those people had ever wished to fly like an eagle. Then I realized that each must have his or her own dreams and ambitions. That’s what makes us unique. We try to respond to something special inside us.I also realized that I was especially fortunate to be making my own dream come true. Everywhere I go,I hear,“Do what makes you happy and you will be happy.” It sounds like standard advice, but I’ve really thought about it and taken it to heart.I couldn’t care less about how much money I make or what benefits I receive.I know that I am already in hot pursuit(追逐) of my dreams. And,even if they change, even if they finally don’t involve aviation,I’ll always aim to fly with the eagles. 1.Two years ago,the author . Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of satisfying hunger. 8 Have you ever finished a whole bag of chips out of boredom or downed cookie after cookie while preparing for a big test? But when done a lot—especially without realizing it—emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall wellbeing. Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings. 9 One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it’s caused by negative feelings.Yes,people often turn to food when they’re stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious,or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine’s Day or the celebration of a holiday feast.Sometimes emotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce. 10 Emotional eating patterns can be learned:A child who is given candy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a job well done. 11 It’s not easy to “unlearn” patterns of emotional eating. But it is possible. And it starts with an awareness of what’s going on. We’re all emotional eaters to a degree. But for some people emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain or other problems. The trouble with emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain. 12 That’s why it helps to know the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger. Next time you reach for a snack, wait and think about which type of hunger is driving it. A.Believe it or not,we’ve all been there. B.If a crying boy gets some cookies,he may link cookies with comfort. C.One study found that people who eat food like pizza become happy afterwards. D.And you often may feel worse about eating the amount or type of food you like. E.Understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it. F.Boys seem to prefer hot, homemade comfort meals, while girls go for chocolate and ice cream. G.More often, though,it’s the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seek comfort in food. 8.答案 A 解析 本段為總起,引起共鳴,A選項(xiàng)中的“...we’ve all been there.” 后面的“That’s why...” B What is happiness? When you can feel inner peace and satisfaction, you are happy. 13 This usually happens when we do something we love or achieve something that we value. It is our opinions that make us feel happy or unhappy. All of us constantly go through various situations or conditions, but we do not have to let them influence our reactions and feelings. 14 Try hard to make a change of the way you look at things. 15 That means looking at the good and positive side of every situation.Pay attention to solutions, not problems.Listen to relaxing and uplifting music.Watch funny and interesting programs that make you laugh. Always look at what you have done and not at what you haven’t done.Look at what you can do,not at what you cannot do.Each day do at least one act to make others happy. When you make someone happy, you’ll become happy, and then people will try to make you happy. 16 On the contrary,be happy for their happiness.Communicate with happy people and try to learn from them to be happy.Remember,do your best to stay detached(冷靜的) when things do not occur as intended and desired.Detachment has much to do with inner peace. 17 A.I’ve never regretted it. B.Always look at the bright side. C.Do not envy people who are happy. D.Stop asking for everyone’s approval. E.Inner peace can lead to happiness,so smile more often. F.Here are a few tips for increasing happiness in daily life. G.It is usually experienced at a special moment. 13. 15.答案 B 解析 根據(jù)空后一句“That means looking at the good and positive side of every situation.” 16.答案 C 解析 根據(jù)空后一句“On the contrary,be happy for their happiness.”可知,空處的意思與“be happy for their happiness”相反,故選C項(xiàng)“不要嫉妒幸福的人”。 17.答案 E 解析 根據(jù)空前一句“Detachment has much to do with inner peace.”
