、faced men as they walked from village to village. Jet planes fly people from one end of the earth to the other, allowing them a freedom of movement undreamt of a hundred years ago. Yet some people wonder if the revolution in travel has gone too far. A price has been paid, they say, for the conquest

、 (征服) of time and distance. Travel_is_something_to_be_enjoyed,_not_endured (忍受). The boat offers leisure and time enough to appreciate the ever-changing sights and sounds of a journey. A journey by train also has a special charm about it. Lakes and forests and wild, open plains sweeping past your c

The soft lighting, in-flight films and gentle music make up the only world you know, and the hours progress slow

、ly. Then there is the time spent being ‘processed’ at a modern airport. People are conveyed like robots along walkways; baggage is weighed, tickets produced, examined and produced yet again before the passengers move to another waiting area. Journeys by rail and sea take longer, yes, but the hours

、devoted to being ‘processed’ at departure and arrival in airports are luckily absent. No wonder, then, that the modern high-speed trains are winning back passengers from the airlines. Man, however, is now a world traveler and cannot turn his back on the airplane. The working lives of too many people

、 depend upon it; whole new industries have been built around its design and operation. The holiday-maker, too, with limited time to spend, patiently endures the busy airports and the limited space of the flight to gain those extra hours and even days, relaxing in the sun. Speed controls people's liv

、es; time saved, in work or play, is the important thing—or so we are told. And then, your wonderful dream becomes a nightmare(噩夢(mèng)) when someone is screaming, “Get up!” It's just what every teenager goes through

、 each morning! Now, there seems to be one school that finally understands that requiring teens to show up at 9 am is not just cruel but also harmful to both the kids and the school. Monkseaton High School in North Tyneside, Britain, recently decided to experiment to see if there is any difference

、in student behavior if they just pushed back the start of their day by one hour, from 9 am to 10 am. And the results are surprising. Since carrying out the later start, Monkseaton has seen a 28% drop in truancy,_even hardly any lateness, and best of all, higher test scores. One of the reasons is th

、ifferences between teens and adults 課時(shí)作業(yè)(二十七) Ⅰ.1.A 考查名詞辨析。 in line with成一直線;in defence of保衛(wèi);concerned about擔(dān)心。

show up“顯示,顯現(xiàn)”,符合題意。 7.C 考查非謂語動(dòng)詞和“be of+抽象名詞”結(jié)構(gòu)。

、t importance=be very important”,可判斷第二空可用of great importance或very important。 或be similar to…in…故選C項(xiàng)。 9.A 本題考查“It is+被強(qiáng)調(diào)部分+that…” 此強(qiáng)調(diào)句中強(qiáng)調(diào)的是“how she does it”。 I don't mind her criticizing me, but I object to how she does it. 10

weaken“削弱”;omit“省去;刪去”;lower“降低”。 15.A be devoted to doing sth. 可將題干理解為…she is how devoted to defending the rights and dignity of women. 由第一段的一些信息,例如“…h(huán)as turned the countri

、es into a series of villages. Distances between them appear no greater to…Jet planes fly people from one end of the earth to the other…” 本段中 “Then there is the time spent being

、‘processed’ at a modern airport…”
