Stay hungry, stay foolish
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I’m honored here to deliver a speech. Today my topic is “stay hungry, stay foolish”. This sentence was mentioned by Steve Jobs last year at the commencement in Stanford University. What did this genius mean by using the sentence?

2、y opinion, “stay hungry” means being active and taking initiative when we learn. If we’re hungry, we will force ourselves to seek for food instead of sitting there waiting. I believe most of us have seen real examples in our growth processes, that someone lose because of his comfortably resting on h
3、is laurel and being unenterprising. The most famous motto said by Socrates is that I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance. Socrates kept thirsty for knowledge as if he knew nothing during his whole life and never felt satisfied with himself. This is like a mood advocated by Buddhism: Empty o
4、urselves. We should keep our attitudes as beginners’, do self-reflections regularly to discover our shortcomings, just as Socrates did, and desire to make progresses.
Then, “stay foolish”. I think this “foolish” means great wisdom. We all could tell the story of the Race between Hare and Tortoise w
5、hen we were in kindergarten. We have known that we shouldn’t be haughty since then. We should be as modest as possible and seek advices from others. In this way can we learn from others’ advantages and eke out our own shortages. The renowned Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang treated those who criticiz
6、ed his performance as teachers. He asked for suggestions from audience who disliked his play. The master is our model. Nowadays, competitions are so furious that we should improve ourselves constantly. If we have the sense of being superior, or look down on others, we would lose our motive power to
7、urge ourselves.
By “stay hungry, stay foolish”, Steve Jobs wanted us to know that knowledge is infinite, and there’s always someone better. Actually he told us a secret to hold on our edge: aspiring to learn and being modest. Only we stay hungry and foolish wouldn’t we fall behind others or time.
